Deeper Life School Molestation: We Won’t Cover Immoral Act – School Authorities say

The management of Deeper Life High School has responded to a dispute over the abuse of a JSS1 student at the school in Akwa Ibom Estate.

In a video released Tuesday, the school’s education secretary, Mrs Thelma Malaka, said the school would not cover the issue but would ensure justice was done.

“I am allowed to remind you that the Akwa Ibom State Governor’s Office is investigating the matter to ensure an impartial and dispassionate outcome,” she said.

“We appreciate the solid efforts of all those who have so far cooperated in the investigation,” she said in the few-minute clip.

Malaka added, “We reiterate that we will be transparent and not only will justice be served, but it will also be seen through the fact that it has been served.

“We want to reaffirm that Deeper Life High School stands by the core values of integrity and uprightness and will not seek to cover up any immoral acts under any circumstances.”

The student’s mother, Mrs. Deborah Okezie, posted a video on Facebook alleging that her 11-year-old son had been sexually abused by her seniors when he was taken away from his hostel to another meant for senior students.

Referring to his ordeal, the victim said he was abused in such a way that he was forced to starve for several days, beaten for bedwetting, and was also maltreated in an hostel for senior students.

In the video of the Deeper Life School molestation, Mrs. Okezie compared the picture of her son before and after he went to the boarding house. She said her son now looked malnourished.

The video has led to the suspension of the principal of the school by the authorities while the Akwa Ibom state government has also started investigation into the incident.

Malaka revealed that police officials were also investigating the matter and that the school had been called in to tell its side of the story.

She said the investigation had been postponed due to the holidays and she hoped the police would inform of the new date as soon as possible.

The school official asked Nigerians to be on the lookout of the final report from the appropriate authorities.
