Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” – Hebrews 11:1
A man walked up to a car dealer outlet after summoning courage to do so. He spotted the car he was believing God for and then went ahead to walk around it, checking the car out anxiously.
Another man, obviously the dealer walked up to him to help him understand the car that he was buying but he became jittery, he rounded off the conversation by asking for the price of the car and then left in a hurry saying to the attendant, “I will come back for it.”
On getting home, month past but he didn’t go back for the car. Are we going to say he didn’t exercise his faith enough?
Oh he exercised faith alright, the only thing missing was the substance. Faith does not depend on how you feel, your reasoning, fear or anxiety, it does not care about the size of the instrument (money, documents, qualification etc) in your hand but the size of your believing heart.
Hebrews 11 made us understand that faith is the substance of a thing hoped for. Faith itself becomes a substance. It is the value you give in the absence of that money, document, health, qualifications and the likes. Substance is value in itself that makes you become relevant in a giving matter therefore, faith becomes that substance, something that makes you certain that you will get what you hope for.
So faith becomes the currency in exchange for your health, finance, success or prosperity, and the likes. A man who walked into a car dealer outlet with trepidation is only psyching up himself, the substance which he needs is still absence.
How do you acquire a substance for the faith you are holding on to? You need a title deed which you can only find in God’s word but that’s a topic for another day!
