Sinach gets Dove Awards nominations for “Way Maker”

Veteran Nigerian gospel singer and song writer, Osinachi Joseph, popularly known as Sinach song “Way Maker” has received nominations in three categories of the Dove Awards 2020 in the United States.

The multi award winning artiste was nominated in three categories – including the Song of the Year, Worship Recorded Song of the Year, and Spanish Language Recorded Song of the Year category. Dove Awards is an accolade by the Gospel Music Association of the United States to recognize outstanding achievement in the Christian music industry. It is expected to hold live on October 15 in Nashville, Tennessee.

Way Maker’s nomination is arguably the first time ever a song written by a Nigerian gospel artist is making the top category. Following the initial release of the hit song back on the 30th of December 2015, it has since gained massive attention and even got covered by a number of Christian music artists in 2019–2020 including Michael W. Smith, Mandisa, Leeland, Christafari, Passion Worship Band, and Bethel Music.

To add to the level of success the song had, the video also went on to reach 100 million views on YouTube, making Sinach the first Nigerian gospel singer and the third Nigerian singer overall to accomplish the feat.

Sinach responded to the news of the nomination by saying; “This nomination could only have come through the Spirit of God and not man. As I have said before, this song was born from the Spirit and it is soaring on the wings of the Holy Ghost.

“It is a song for the now. I am grateful to everyone who has supported us, the churches, the ministers who have taken this song to the ends of the earth, and the many people it continues to be a blessing to.”
