Riots carrying “Black Lives Matter” signs in front of a federal courthouse in Portland have set Bibles on fire while also burning American flags.

People had thought they were protesting against police brutality and shocked, question the purpose of the arson, setting Bibles on fire.

According to  according to KOIN correspondent Danny Peterson, “People started a fire in the street in front of the Federal Court House. They started with the burning of the Bible, then an American flag, until more items were added.”

“Finally (around 1am), yellow-clad members of the the group Moms United for Black Lives Matter came together to put out the fire with water bottles.”

Ian Cheung, managing editor of Human Events, wrote in a post with a video that shows activists bringing a pile of Bibles to be burnt in front of the Federal Courthouse in Portland; “Don’t be fooled into believing that these demonstrations and riots are nothing more than an attempt to destroy all Western civilization and centuries of tradition and freedom of religion.”

Reacting to videos of Bibles on fire being shared on social media, Donald Trump Jr. said, “Now we move to the book-burning phase. I’m pretty sure ANTIFA doesn’t actually stand for what they say it stands for. Maybe just remove the ‘anti’ part of [their] name and it’s perfect.”

Riots in Portland have been raging since the May 25 death of George Floyd, who died in police custody in Minneapolis. President Donald Trump has sent federal law enforcement personnel to Portland to protect federal buildings and end violence.

Following “repeated requests” from Oregon Gov. Kate Brown, the federal government agreed to a “phased return of federal officers,” which began earlier this week. Brown said federal officials acted as an “occupying force” and “created violence and conflict in our community.”

The Department of Homeland Security said on Saturday that the violence was declining and that their “growing presence on the ground would continue until the department determined that the courthouse and other federal property were safe.”

On Friday, 18-year-old Gabriel Agard-Berryhill was charged in a criminal complaint with throwing explosives ito the the doorway of a federal courthouse  in Portland.

According to Fox News, U.S. Attorney Billy J. Williams said, “Throwing a large explosive device against a government building does not send a legitimate protest message.” Mr Agard-Berryhill’s actions could seriously injure law enforcement officers near the courthouse, other protesters nearby, or himself.
