Mexico earthquake: Church sponsors relief effort
Elder Paul B. Pieper, the Mexico Area President, met recently with families affected by the quake, local government officials and also visited Church-supported food distribution points.
The Church sent 10,000 boxes of food, 300 tents and 5,000 hygiene kits to Oaxaca. Another 5,000 food boxes were sent to Chiapas, according to Mormon Newsroom.
“The earthquake gives an opportunity to not only rebuilt the city but also rebuild souls,” said Elder Pieper, who has counseled members to “make sure this natural disaster is not a spiritual disaster; make sure it is a spiritual blessing.”
