Bible News: My Redeemer Lives… And I Will See Him With My Eyes

Happy New year to you all once again. It feels good to be writing to you this morning. I must say that amongst every gift the Lord has made this platform provided, nothing gives me more joy than writing to you in this column. Being able to bring the Good news of the Lord to you is a fulfillment that cannot be fully understood with words.

This morning, I will like to talk briefly about Job 19:25-27; I must have read and confess these verses a thousand times and in different circumstances but this morning, something struck me about the reality of this verse and I will share with you today.

I know that my redeemer lives,
    and that in the end he will stand on the earth.
And after my skin has been destroyed,
    yet in my flesh I will see God;
I myself will see him
    with my own eyes—I, and not another.
    How my heart yearns within me! [Job 19:25-27 NIV]

I have always known Job wasn’t referring to his seeing God after death in this verse but the fact that no matter how hard things got for him, while he is still alive, he will see God again. I have always known this but this morning, two words in the NIV version of verse 16 struck me. Job referred to all that his happening in his circumstances as the destruction of his “skin” while he referred to the one who will see God as “flesh.”

Job said:

And after my skin has been destroyed,
    yet in my flesh I will see God.” [Job: 19:26]

What Job was saying in essence is this, I may be going through all this right now and it is causing some destruction and loss but I will not die in this circumstance; God will show up for me.”

By God showing up, Job wasn’t saying God will come and say “hello” then vanish, No, he was saying he will see the hand of God in the situation. Job was so assured of this and that is why he was confident, despite all he was going through to say that “I Know that I will see God.”

I have made this my resolution too. No matter how things got, I know that I will see God. 1Peter 1:7 talked about this same fact that God will show up for you — this year!

Hagar, after God showed up for her; saved her and her child in a hopeless situation, she said “I have seen the Lord who sees me (El Roi)” (Genesis 16:13); this year, this will be your testimony too.

At times you may want to wonder, does God truly exist? If He does, does He sees all I am going through? The just shall live by faith. Let your faith prevail over your doubt this year, God lives, Jesus is alive and before the year runs out, you will see his hand in your situation. You will say confidently too, “I have seen the Lord who sees me!”

The 2012 movie “Raising Izzie” is one I can see over and over again. Gertie Nash in a moment of hopelessness prays to a God she didn’t believe existed; He shows up for her and her whole life did not remain the same. Believe and you will see!
