SELAH'S JOURNAL: LIGHTS, CAMERA & HOLY SPIRIT

But we all, with [unveiled] face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory” – 2 Corinthians 3:18

Working on the camera for me has been one of the most exciting things I’ve done in school. I worked in the Audio Unit for a while or rather the most part of my school years but switching to the Visual Unit has been one of the best decisions I’ve made.

One thing I love about the camera is the way it makes everything look so much sharper and clearer that is if you have your focus and lighting set. I love looking into the view finder and then looking at the framed object in reality and the difference just blows me away. It’s clearer, colours are sharper and all, it’s beautiful.

Handling the camera today, I was marveling at the contrast between reality and what my camera had captured when few thoughts occurred to me. As Christians our “camera” is the Holy Spirit. When we see through the eyes of the Spirit or through the Word, things make more sense, the impossible becomes possible and the world is really not as it seems but we get a better view of it. Looking through human eyes make everything seem dull and even when we see, we do not realize that we do not really see.

Another feature of the camera is the zoom feature. You get to see what normally you can’t from the distance that you’re at and sometimes you zoom out and can see a wider view of your shot. When we walk with God we get these two view. The times when the Spirit knows we need close up views, He enables us. He helps us to see things we usually wouldn’t and helps us discern things as needed. And there are times when we need to stand back and look, the times when we need to inspect what we’ve done or look at things in the long term, He gives us the ability to look at things from that point of view. To zoom out of the now so we can see into the future.

There are several things that make a good shot and I’ve really not mastered all but the basic things are light and focus. These two elements can be likened to the Word and our attitude towards God and His business respectively. If we can invest in the Word and God’s business, we can be sure that our lives will be better and that the rewards are much more beyond what we can imagine. These also determine what we see, our relationships with God and the Spirit too. To get a good shot, we need a balance of these because no matter how skilled a camera person is, if the lightning is bad or the focus is blurry the beauty of the shot cannot be seen. So adjust your focus and your lighting and see Him work on perfecting your skills.
