For the Senior Pastor of the House on The Rock Church, Pastor Paul Adefarasin, his ministry’s determination to promote gospel music in Nigeria was part of a “kingdom commitment to restore music as a vehicle through which praise and worship is brought to God by man”.
Speaking during the second edition of ‘The African Praise Experience’ (TAPE), a companion event to his flagship gospel concert, ‘The Experience’, which held in his church recently, Adefarasin said research has proved that many of the secular musicians in the country had originally been gifted and groomed within the church setting before branching out to become world superstars. He listed some of the artistes to include Don Jazzy, D’banj, P-Square and Tuface. “These are talented artistes in their own rights and are making waves with the gifts that were originally given to them by God but you will agree with me that very little of that gift is presently being used to serve the cause of God’s kingdom in the earth today,’ Adefarasin said.
He went on to assert that even beyond music, the ministry was further interested in equally promoting a kingdom agenda in the entertainment industry, stating that he was particularly impressed by the fact that Nollywood had since gone on to become one of the three most prolific film industries in the world, and is clearly now a very important shaper of our values and cultures that could not be ignored.
“The entertainment industry is a very important one. Nollywood, for example, has since come to register as a most important source for shaping and defining culture and values. For us as a ministry, we are going to continue to encourage many of the players in Nollywood who are working to ensure that all of our positive cultures and values are not eroded. This is why for example, we are having a Special Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, November 3, 2013 to commemorate 20 years of Nollywood as an industry,” the man of God remarked.
