“Out of the ground the Lord God formed every animal of the field, and every bird of the sky, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. Whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name.”
– Genesis 2:18
From the beginning of creation, God has been ensuring that man realizes the power and authority He has given to man. Apart from saying it clear and loud that He has given man dominion, be fruitful and multiply, He further tried practical steps to ensure that man understands the power that has been given to him by God.
Genesis 2:18 says, God brought the creations to man to “see” what he would call them. In some cases in the Bible, we have seen where God will by Himself give name to a person, a thing or a place, so why was the situation different in the beginning? Why did He have to bring them to Adam to see what name he will call them?
I have a theory. What can be more profound in illustrating man’s power to put his thought into existence than God’s story of creation? God was creating and he was saying “let us create,” He was willing to show man that he (man) too has been given the same power so He involved him in the creation process by allowing him name the creations.
Are you still in doubt of the power to create which God has given to you because you have spoken but you didn’t see it come to pass immediately? Let me ask you a question. Is it the first day that you named that your little pet Winnie, Banny etc, that it responded? Of course no, but did you stop calling the pet the name because it didn’t respond the first time?
Forget what the situation looks like, the question is what do you see? Do you believe it strong enough to speak what you see? Then maybe God is bringing it to you so you can give it a name because He already created what you are seeing! Hallelujah!
